SEACOM awarded Carrier Wholesales Provider of the Year at Africa Digital Economy Awards 2024

SEACOM has been honoured with the award for Carrier Wholesales Provider of the Year at the 9th annual African Digital Economy Awards (ADEA).

The awards ceremony was held on 13 September at the Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi and attended by members of the SEACOM Group executive team, fellow entrants, industry leaders and stakeholders, and members of the media.

“In a year that Africa’s network infrastructure has faced significant challenges and consumers and businesses have been adversely affected by network disruptions, SEACOM has not wavered in its dedication to its partners and customers to keep them connected and empowered. We are very proud to have been awarded this prestigious honour which exemplifies our goal to lead by example in the provision of wholesale broadband connectivity,” said Sajid Kahn, Managing Director of SEACOM Group Digital Services.

Now in its 9th year, the African Digital Economy Awards honours organisations in both the public and private sectors that leverage digital innovation to change lives, and whose efforts have contributed to the creation, growth and resilience of a continent-wide economy.

The award comes soon after SEACOM’s commitment to providing reliable connectivity services was put to the test. Earlier this year, damage to multiple subsea cable systems resulted in disruptions to Internet services in Africa.

Thanks to a combination of redundancy setups, provisional capacity and rapid response, SEACOM was able to continue providing service to its customers by restoring it in just 48 hours, a process that would typically require weeks to complete. The incidents also provided SEACOM with valuable operational insights that allowed the group to refine its processes and enhance its preparedness for future incidents.

“The multiple cable breaks not only were a test of our ability to respond to network disruptions, but have also strengthened our reputation in the eyes of our valued customers and partners. Trust and loyalty are essential when it comes to the infrastructure and platforms that power Africa’s digital transformation and enable businesses to leverage cloud computing, network management, cybersecurity, and other technologies and solutions,” Khan added.

In addition to SEACOM being awarded Carrier Wholesales Provider of the Year, Sajid Kah, Managing Director of Group Digital Services, received the Outstanding Contribution to the ICT Industry Award. With more than 25 years of experience in the sector, Sajid has demonstrated commitment and passion in propelling the continental industry forward through innovation and excellence. During that time, Sajid has been in multiple corporate functions for several multinational organisations, making him a key asset for SEACOM and Africa’s digital transformation.

“I am incredibly grateful to the African Digital Economy Awards for this recognition and hope to continue serving this industry to achieve real, impactful results. Our work is far from finished and we shall never stop striving to realise Africa’s full digital potential, enabling citizens and enterprises to participate in the global digital economy and forge their own destinies in the digital landscape,” Khan said.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, SEACOM’s network of ICT infrastructure includes multiple subsea cable, a continent-wide IP-MPLS network, and Metro Fibre networks in several of Africa’s major cities.
