Uber Kenya

Uber Kenya

As one of the leading taxi hailing apps, Uber has a number of security features meant to keep both riders and drivers safe. One of them is the emergency SOS button that is accessible to all riders during a trip. This can be helpful especially with the recent reports of some Uber drivers demanding riders pay more than what is indicated on the app and locking the riders in their cars if they don’t comply.

The emergency SOS button is a safety feature for riders who may feel unsafe when on a ride. When activated, it will connect the rider to emergency services nearby. You can use Uber’s emergency button 24/7 any day of the week. This can be used when you encounter any incident such as harassment by the driver or when you are involved in an accident.

When connected to the emergency dispatch agent, you can go ahead and share your location and the vehiucle details for further assistance.

How to Use Emergency SOS Button on the Uber App

When on a trip, navigate to the ride information menu.

If you tap the “Call Security” button and connect to a private emergency services and security responder, those trip details become available to them digitally and can be used to respond to an emergency.

Note: The app will indicate that trip information is automatically shared with emergency services. Riders and drivers can choose not to share their trip information with private emergency services and security responders by changing the privacy settings in their app.
