On Monday, e-Taxi drivers held demonstrations in Nairobi demanding better pay. They claim the rates offered by the platforms are not sustainable.
Bolt has issued a statement regarding this but the company is yet to confirm if ity has reached any agreement with the drivers.
“Bolt is aware of the drivers’ strike and we respect their right to peaceful demonstrations. As a business, we consistently work towards enabling our driver partner’s entrepreneurial journey through our platform,” the company said.
Bolt did not address specific issues raised by the drivers but went ahead to say, “ Bolt upholds local legislation and is compliant with the licensing requirements set by the industry regulator, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). We continue to work in partnership with local authorities and other key stakeholders to ensure that the ride-hailing, micro-mobility, and food delivery industry in Kenya, grows to its full potential, sustainably.”
The company said its is ready for engagement and collaboration with drivers to address their concerns. “We value all feedback and input received from our driver partners and riders as this facilitates continuous growth and progress for all parties. Bolt periodically receives feedback and discusses pertinent issues with our driver partners through our driver in-person forums. We also encourage all drivers and riders on our platform to continue reaching out to us directly through our in-app support feature,” the company concluded.
