Infinix note 40 pro Review

If you are looking for a smartphone under 40k, there are so many option to choose from. The differences between the many devices on the market can be subtle and this can be confusing when buying a new phone. You are not sure what device to take and how it will handle day to day tasks. One of the latest phones under 40k you can get in Kenya is the Infinix Note 40 Pro.

The Infinix note 40 Pro is the latest smartphone from the company to be unveiled in Kenya and you can get it in stores for approximately Ksh 38,000. The price may vary depending on where you get the phone from. You can get it from online retailers like Gadgets Leo, Jumia and most offline retailers across the country.

At its price, the Infinix Note 40 Pro is a direct competitor to the Redmi Note 13 Pro, Realme 12 among others. Devices in this price segment are really good and in this review I will share my thoughts on the Infinix Note 40 Pro to help you decide if the phone is worth your money.

Key Specifications

  • Display: 6.78-inch (1080 x 2436 pixels), AMOLED, 120Hz.
  • Processor: Mediatek Helio G99 Ultimate
  • Rear Camera: 108MP + 2MP + 2MP: Records 2K@30fps.
  • Front Camera: 32MP
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Battery Capacity: 5,000mAh, 70W charging, 20W wireless charging.
  • Android 14, ColorOS 14.

In this review, I will be focusing on the following aspects:

  • Display and design
  • Battery and charging
  • Software and Performance
  • Cameras

Display and Design

The infinix Note 40 Pro comes with an AMOLED display that supports 120Hz refresh rate. This is a 6.78 inch curved display that looks sharp and vibrant. I love curved displays as they offer an immersive experience and give the phone a premium touch at the same time. This is exactly what the display on the Note 40 Pro offers. If you are planning to use your phone for media consumption or for gaming, this display is perfect for that.

The color reproduction is accurate and inviting. Viewing angles are also perfect without losing any clarity. You can view this display from any angle and have the same immersive and rich experience.

This display is also responsive and has an in-display fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is easy to set up and has been accurate throughout my review period. Besides using the fingerprint to unlock the phone, you can use it to access locked apps. The display is also bright enough to use under direct sunlight.

Infinix has included a free screen protector in the box and is also promising free repairs if you accidentally break this screen within 180 days of purchasing the phone.

Design and Build

As for the design and build quality, the Infinix Note 40 Pro has a leather back that looks stunning. I got the one with a green finish that blends really well with the metallic frame and curved display. This gives the phone a premium look that we see on more expensive phones on the market. The leather back is truly unique and does stand out grabbing people’s attention every time I take out the phone.

Besides the leather back, infinix has also included a free back cover with a similar material.

Overall, Infinix has nailed it with the build quality and appearance of this phone. It does feel and look premium and definitely worth the money.

Battery and Charging

This is one of the key selling points of the Infinix Note 40 Pro. The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery, which is sort of the standard these days, that supports 70W wired charging and 20W wireless charging through Infinix’s wireless charging tech it calls MagCharge.

Firstly, the 5,000 mAh battery can easily last you an entire day even with heavy usage. I am mostly on my phone and can get the phone to last the whole day and still have over 20% of battery left by the time i go to bed.

Secondly, the 70W adapter included in the box helps charge the phone much faster. At max speed, you can get it to charge from 0 to 50% in about 16 minutes. Given that fast charging causes the phone to be warm, Infinix has an option where you can reduce the charging speed (not get 70W) and have the phone charge without getting warm. I have set mine to ‘Smart Charge’ which is an option to intelligently adjust charging speeds for the best charging effects at all times.

Thirdly, with wireless charging, you can get up to 20W charging speeds but the included wireless charging pad, MagPad, supports 15W charging. The MagPad is included for free with the purchase of the phone so you will not have to buy it separately.

The MagPad attaches to the back of the phone magnetically and charges the phone. It even works with the back cover provided. When attached correctly and is charging, it has a light indicator that changes from red to green to let you know it’s charging.

The Note 40 Pro also supports reverse charging that allows you to use it as a powerbank to charge other devices.

Software and Performance

The Infinix Note 40 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 Ultimate processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Performance has been great with this phone. It does handle all tasks with ease and no lags. If you want reliability from your smartphone, this is a great choice.

I played a few games with this phone and it handled that well. Some games take a bit longer to load but once they do, the experience is reliable. Multitasking is also smooth as the 8GB of RAM is sufficient for most people. If not, you can expand that further to 16GB using virtual RAM.

The software experience is also good. XOS has come a long way with personalization and customization options. XOS 14 allows you to add your touch to the phone by customizing the UI to your liking. There are a ton of these options that you can explore to get the phone to look exactly how you want it to.

A notable feature to mention about this phone is that it comes with dual speakers that have the Sound by JBL touch for enhanced audio quality with distortion-free volume and deeper bass. The sound quality is good and this is great for those who watch videos or movies on their phones.

Cameras

The Note 40 Pro has a 108MP camera at the back and a 32MP front facing camera. The back camera takes really good shots and will not disappoint even in low light conditions. The cameras are quick to focus which is a plus when you want to take a quick photo. The back camera also supports 3X lossless zoom which in my opinion is much better than digital zoom.

Photos are clear and well saturated even when the lighting is not the best. Portrait mode is also very accurate on this phone. For video recording, you only get up to 2K recording at 30fps. This is not bad for most people but I just had to mention it does not support 4K.

Conclusion

Infinix Note 40 Pro Kenya

The Infinix Note 40 Pro at its price offers good value for money. It is not cheap but offers slightly more than its competitors in its price range. I love it because:

  • Of the curved AMOLED display is stunning to use and look at.The overall design and leather back make the phone appealing.
  • 70W fast charging and MagCharge technology  make it stand out. Including the MagPad for free is also a plus.
  • It does handle all tasks with ease.
  • The cameras are pretty good too.
