DStv is about to adjust its monthly subscription fees yet again. This is expected to affect all packages and will take effect in April. This annual price hike by DStv will push the most expensive package to Ksh 10,500 up from Ksh 9,900.
Some subscribers have received the notification of the changes. DStv has always claimed the price hikes are due to the rising costs of doing business in Africa. The changes will not sit well with some subscribers who argue that DStv keeps hiking its rates but does not add more channels they want to watch.
Competition from streaming services such as Netflix and Showmax eat into DStv’s market share and will continue doing so in the coming years. This is especially so for the younger people who may not see the need to pay for TV yet they do not watch a fraction of the channels. DStv has always had an advantage thanks to its sports offerings.
Recently, Showmax, DStv’s sister company, relaunched with new packages with a mobile only English premier League package starting at just ksh 500. The interesting bit about the relaunched Showmax sports packages is that they only show EPL matches and not any other leagues. I am honestly not a fan of this and I feel like MultiChoice wants to push more people to DStv which keeps getting expensive by the day.
