At MWC 2024 yesterday, Kenya won the bid to be the next host of the 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS). The summit is organized by the Smart Africa Alliance, a Pan-African agency for ICTs, and is set to take place from August 20th to 30th.
The Transform Africa Summit is an annual forum bringing together global and regional leaders from government, business and international organizations. It seeks to encourage them to collaborate on new ways of shaping, accelerating and sustaining Africa’s on-going digital revolution.
Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, said the achievement was stamp of confidence in Kenya’s unrivalled leadership in the ICT landscape. “This win is testament to the confidence that the Smart Africa Alliance has on Kenya as an ICT powerhouse, and a leader in championing the region’s efforts to leverage the power of ICTs for socio-economic development,” said Mr. Owalo.
The preparations for the summit are already underway, and the country expects to host over 5,000 delegates from Africa and around the world. This will be the first time the country hosts the Transform Africa Summit in the decade-long history of the Smart Africa Alliance.
He acknowledged the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chaired by Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, the Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for their tireless dedication and commitment in delivery a winning bid for Kenya.
Ms. Mary Mungai, the CA Board Chairperson, said hosting the summit will be helpful in shaping conversations on sustainable digital economies in Africa. Ms. Mungai noted that the event offers a platform for Kenya to work with other nations to forge a sustainable digital economy in the region.
The CA Director General, Mr. David Mugonyi, on his part views this as an opportunity for knowledge exchange, sharing experiences, and best practices.
