AltSchool Africa, the Nigerian edtech startup founded in 2021, has announced its official entry to kenya. This will be its second country in East Africa after Rwanda. The startup provides a number of in-demand courses that seek to transition Africans into global tech roles. The Kenyan arm will be led by Tabitha Kayvu.
According to its Co-founder and CEO, Adewale Yusuf, Kenya is its second biggest market just behind Nigeria. The high number of enrolments in kenya is what pushed the company to expand to the country. He did not share the specifics of each country but the company says it has a total of 60,000 learners in over 105 countries.
AltSchool Africa provides virtual education but still works to build communities and partnerships offline for its learners. This has been the case in Nigeria and will be so for Kenya too. Nifemi Akinwamide, Head of Growth and Partnerships at AltSchool has confirmed that it has begun conversations with communities and organizations in Kenya according to TechPoint Africa.
Various Courses on Offer
When it started operation, AltSchool Africa focused on offering one-year diploma courses in software engineering. Over time, it has added new courses ranging from data engineering, sales, fintech product management to digital marketing. The startup has 5 distinct schools of Data, Engineering, Business, Product and Creative Economy. The fees vary but are generally (for tech courses) about $80 per quarter, $30 per month or $290 if you pay the full amount upfront.
AltSchool Africa raised over $1 million in pre-seed funding in 2022 and claims to make $3 million in Annual Recurring Revenue.
