Earlier this month, GOtv Stream was unveiled as a new addition to MultiChoice’s portfolio. According to MultiChoice Kenya managing director Nzola Miranda, “By 2027 the African streaming industry will be worth $2 billion (Sh306billion), we are looking to tap on the increasing use of smartphones in Kenya.”
So, what exactly is GOtv, how can you access it and what does it have to offer?
What is GOtv Stream?
GOtv Stream is a streaming app for GOtv subscribers. The app allows you to watch Live TV, see TV guide and event Catch Up on your favourite shows and movies. The app is available on both Android and iOS. You can access it through your smartphone, tablet and laptop. This service is not available on Smart TVs.
Requires GOtv subscription
To access GOtv, you will need an active GOtv subscription. These are the credentials you will need to log in and only access shows and channels available on your GOtv package.
4 Devices Per GOtv Stream Account
You can access GOtv Stream on up to 4 different devices at a time. You can also create 4 different profiles on one GOtv Stream account. If you have 4 people in your household, each person can have their own account and stream their favourite shows or movies. You can only stream on one device at a time. This means that not all profiles can stream on the same time. This is a bit confusing and I would have hoped there was an option to stream on multiple accounts at the same time. To bypass this, you can have one person watch the TV as they normally would and have anyone else stream on their smartphone or PC.
10Mbps or Higher
GOtv Stream requires an internet connection and works exactly as any other video streaming platform like Showmax and Netflix. To use this service, MultiChoice recommends internet speeds of at least 10Mbps.
Download up to 25 Videos
GOtv Stream lets you download videos to watch later when you do not have an internet connection. You can download up to 25 videos per account. This is perfect for anyone who wants access to their videos all the time. You can download the videos when at home and watch them when you do not have an active connection.
