Top 5 Reasons to Buy the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12S

Redmi Note 12S

The Redmi Note 12S is one of the latest smartphones from the company to launch in Kenya. You can get the phone on Jumia starting from Ksh 30,500 depending on the configuration you choose.  The Redmi Note 12S is not that different from its predecessor, the Redmi Note 11S. If You already have the 11S, then there is no need to upgrade to the 12S. Jumia has the Redmi Note 11S listed for Ksh 32,000.

Back to the Redmi Note 12S, it has been in retail stores in Kenya for a few months now and is one of the handful of devices in the Redmi Note 12 series. I have had a chance to use the Redmi Note 12S for a few weeks and in this post, I will be sharing my top 5 reasons why you may want to consider getting this phone.

If you want to learn more about its specifications, you can read more about it here.

Sleek Design and Build

Redmi Note 12S Kenya

There is nothing unique about the design of the Redmi Note 12S but it still feels and looks sleek. The phone feels very light and has slightly curved back that make it easy to hold and carry around. The back is very smooth and slippery to touch but you can use the free back cover provided to add some grip. The phone also has a 6.4-inch display with very thin bezels.

5000 mAh Battery

With the 5000 mAh battery, I can easily use this phone for an entire day on a single charge. This battery handled everything from web browsing, social media, some gaming, watching content on YouTube, calls, texts etc. I could still get home in the evening with over 30% of battery remaining most days.

As for charging, this phone supports 33W charging just like the Redmi Note 11S. With this, you should expect it to fully charge from 0 to 100% in a little over an hour.

108 MP Back Camera

We all want to take good and clear shots these days and the Redmi Note 12S will not disappoint. Equipped with a 108MP main camera at the back, I have managed to take some decent shots with this phone. I did however notice that it does struggle a bit when recording videos. The videos I got did not really impress me even when the lighting was so good. The photos on the other hand were good even when the lighting was not so great.

AMOLED Display

As I have mentioned above, the Redmi Note 12S has a 6.43-inch display. This is an AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate. Since it is AMOLED, it is perfect for media consumption especially when watching movies. The blacks are very deep, and this provides for a much better experience. I could use this phone under direct sunlight and still clearly see what was on the display.

90Hz refresh rate is not the highest as the Redmi Note 12 Pro has 120Hz but it still gets the job done. It ensures you have a smooth scrolling experience when using the phone and when gaming.

Decent Performance

The Redmi Note 12S comes with MIUI 14 out of the box. For performance, it does come with an old processor, the Helio G96, but it still handles day to day tasks and even games with no issues. I did manage to play intensive games including PUBG with no performance issues of lags. I played the game at High frame rate, and it was smooth.

Day to day tasks were also handled with ease during the review period. The phone is good for multitasking as opening apps and switching between multiple applications was smooth.
