Tecno Spark 9 Pro Unboxing and First Impressions

Tecno Spark 9 Pro

The latest smartphone in the Tecno Spark series is the Tecno Spark 9. This series is made up of three devices, the Spark 9, Spark 9 Pro and the Spark 9T. I have the Tecno Spark 9 Pro in for review. This Tecno Spark 9 Pro is available in Kenya starting from Ksh 20,899.

The Tecno Spark 9 is the successor to the Spark 8 series that I reviewed late last year. The Spark 9 Pro looks and feels like a complete upgrade compared to its predecessor. Since I have the Spark 9 Pro in for review, I will be unboxing it in this post and sharing my first impressions on it.

The Spark 9 Pro is meant for the youth as it still comes with some good specifications including the cameras.

Have a look at the key Spark 9 Pro specifications.

Unboxing the Spark 9 Pro

This is what you will be getting in the box when you unbox the Tecno Spark 9 Pro.

  • The phone
  • USB Cable
  • Earphones
  • Wall Adapter supporting 18W fast charging
  • Back cover
  • User guide and warranty information.

Tecno Spark 9 Pro First Impressions

When you take the Spark 9 Pro out of the box, you will be impressed with the design and build quality Tecno has used. The phone feels different from the Spark 8 series. It almost looks and feels like the Camon 19 series with its flat back and two large circular housing for the camera lenses.

Tecno Spark 9 Pro back

The back is made of plastic just like its predecessor but it does not feel cheap. It feels premium, especially the black variant that I have. The back has a two tone finish with the top section housing the camera module having a glossy finish while the bottom part having a matte finish. There is also the Tecno Spark branding as well as the ‘Stop at Nothing’  branding that Tecno seems to be using on some of its devices.

Still on the back, the camera module is made up of a 50MP main sensor, 2MP sensor and a QVGA sensor.

The power and volume keys are on the right and within easy reach. These buttons don’t protrude outwards that much so the phone ends up having an overall clean look. The SIM tray that also houses the microSD slot is on the left with the headphone jack, speaker grille and USB Type C port at the bottom.

The display of the Spark 9 Pro is a 6.6 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. This display is quite bright and vibrant but I have noticed a weird thing where its brightness adjusts slowly when you do it manually. When I manually adjust brightness upwards or downwards, the actual brightness of the display takes time to fully match that. This is not a very big deal but it is something I have noticed and that I had to mention.

Tecno Spark 9 Pro display

The Spark 9 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 Processor that has been paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for the variant I have for review. There is 2GB extra virtual RAM that can be used when needed. So far performance has been good as expected with any new smartphone and I will be sharing my full experiences when I use this phone for a few more days.

The Tecno Spark 9 Pro has impressed me so far. It is a well built phone that feels quite improved compared to its predecessor. Tecno Spark devices never get my attention that much but the Spark 9 Pro seems to be different.

Expect the full review of this phone in the coming weeks.
