Mdundo, the music service provider, has released its numbers for the first quarter of 2022. From what has been shared, Mdundo seems to have had a good year so far compared to previous years.

In Kenya, the music service has seen its user base grow by 46% to 5.7 million quarterly users. This is very impressive to achieve in just one quarter compared to a similar period the previous year.

Mdundo says that the growth is thanks to the rise in demand for easily accessible music among the youthful population, the growing mobile phone usage and strategic partnerships with leading African telecommunications companies. Besides Kenya, growth has been steady in most of the other markets it is operating in. Tanzania saw a 10% growth in users to reach 3.9 million, Nigeria and South Africa registered the biggest quarter on quarter growth, recording 8.3 million and 2.2 million users, representing 92% and 80% growth respectively. There was also significant growth recorded in South Sudan, Burundi, Congo, Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire, where Mdundo expanded to in 2020.
