Instagram’s latest update will finally bring back the chronological feed that many users have been asking for. Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, shared this on the app’s website a couple of days back. Instagram has been working on implementing these changes for some time now. This is not the only sorting option that we will see on the Instagram home feed as there are more to come in the future.

Instagram is referring to this new chronological feed as Following. Just as it had been before, there is no setup needed to sort out your timeline that way. The content you see on the feed appears in relation to when it was published.

Besides bringing back the chronological feed, Instagram plans to add more recommendations to the feed.

In a previous post, Instagram said that it had removed the chronological ordering from the feed as it had seen a drop in how much content users were seeing, The company said, “As more people joined and more was shared, it became impossible for most people to see everything, let alone all the posts they cared about.”

Instagram revealed that people were missing up to 70% of the posts that were included in their feed. About half of all posts from users’ close connections were being missed too. This is what prompted Instagram to scrape off the chronological feed and rather show users posts that they care the most about.

Even with that said, users still wanted the chronological order back. This is what is forcing Instagram to bring back the chronological feed as it tries to keep people glued to the platform.
