The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event has just ended. At the event, the Korean manufacturer introduced its new flagship series, the Galaxy S22. This represents the company’s flagship series for 2022. It focuses on better cameras, faster processors, and a few other innovative features.
With the launch of the Galaxy S22 series, I thought I should highlight some of the things you may want to know about this series.
“At Samsung, we constantly push ourselves to raise the bar on our most premium devices,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ MX (Mobile eXperience) Business. “Galaxy S22 Ultra takes the beloved functionality of the Galaxy Note and the most celebrated aspects of the S Series and merges them for a truly unique mobile experience. This is a leap forward for mobile technology, setting a new standard for what a smartphone can be.”
Available in Three Variants
The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is available in three different variants. These are:
- The Samsung Galaxy S22
- The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus
- The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
The S22 is the base model, the S22 Plus is right in the middle and the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the premium model.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Price and Availability in Kenya
The Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be available on pre-order in Kenya from 1st March to 10th March. The prices are as listed below:
The Samsung Galaxy S22 – Ksh 99,000 (256GB)
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus – Ksh 116,999 (256GB)
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – Ksh 159,999 (512GB) and Ksh 148,999 (256GB)
Those who pre-order the Galaxy S22 series will get the Galaxy Buds 2 for free.
S-Pen With the Galaxy S22 Ultra
The premium model, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, will come with an S-Pen. This is not the first Galaxy S series to support the S-Pen as the Galaxy S21 already supports the S-Pen. It is just the first one to come with a built-in S Pen. This is something we normally see on the Galaxy Note devices and it looks like it will be the case for the premium Galaxy S devices going forward.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 Chipset
The Galaxy S22 series will be powered by either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 chipset. For us in Kenya, we will be getting the Exynos 2200 chipset on the models that will be launching in Kenya. Samsung has not shared much about the Exynos 2200 processor and we will have to wait longer to learn more about it.
No matter the processor, the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus models will have 8GB of RAM. The Galaxy S22 Ultra on the other hand will have up to 12GB of RAM. Storage options available include 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
Four Android Updates
The Galaxy S22 series comes with Android 12 with One UI 4.1 out of the box. This is not the most impressive thing as Samsung has promised that these phones will get four major Android updates. This is not that common and even HMD Global promises 3 major Android updates.
With this promise, the Galaxy S22 series should get Android 13, Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16 in 2025 and 2026. This is commendable for Samsung and should be copied by other manufacturers.
Besides the 4 major Android updates, Samsung is promising 5 years on security patches.
