The Tecno Camon 17 Pro was launched in Kenya recently and is currently available in stores for Ksh 28,899. This is the successor to the Camon 16 series from last year. I loved the Camon 16 Premier specifically and felt like it had a good chance competing with most other smartphones within its price range.
The Tecno Camon 17 Pro was launched as the company showcased a stunning documentary that discusses thought-provoking subjects surrounding the rise of the selfie and the selfie generation’s needs.
The documentary, titled “Rise of The Selfie” dives into the selfie’s history and why it has become such an essential feature of the current generation. Hollywood actor Chris Evans, TECNO’s newest brand ambassador, is featured saying, “You might want a picture that is vivid and full of emotion or you might want something simple,” but what makes it a good image is because it is “so individual”.
The Tecno Camon 17 Pro is one of the three devices in the Camon 17 series, the other two are the Camon 17 and Camon 17P.
In this post we will be talking about the Tecno Camon 17 Pro and highlight its top features.
The Cameras
The Tecno Camon 17 Pro comes with a total of 5 cameras with 4 at the back and 1 for selfies. The back camera setup is made up of a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, a 2MP depth sensor and another 2MP monochrome sensor.
You get really good shots with this camera and night mode is quite good as well. The Tecno Camon 17 Pro is a camera-centric phone and you do not expect anything less coming from the camera. The back camera also supports 4K video recording.
For selfies, the Camon 17 Pro has a 48MP sensor for that. The selfies you will get with this camera are really good to say the least. They are vibrant and detailed even when the lighting is not so good.
The Display
The Tecno Camon 17 Pro has this beautiful 6.8-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. This display is good, it gets bright when you need it to and this can be useful outside under direct sunlight.
Colour reproduction is also accurate and this makes media consumption on this phone quite good. I have been impressed so far with this display and I can’t wait to use it for a few more days before sharing my full thoughts on it.
The display has a 90Hz refresh rate which is always a welcomed addition. This ensures smooth scrolling for an overall good experience.
Performance
The Tecno Camon 17 Pro has so far handled everything I have thrown at it without any issues. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio G95 processor that the company has paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space. This is huge and for a phone under Ksh 20,000, it is good value for money.
No matter what you do with your phone, this combination will be able to handle that. If you are into mobile gaming and play games like PUBG or any other demanding game, this phone will cater for you really well.
Battery
To ensure you have enough power to get things done, the Tecno Camon 17 Pro comes with a 5,000 mAh battery. This is the standard size we are seeing on smartphones these days and it is what we are getting on the Camon 17 Pro. With this battery, you can use your phone for an entire workday and depending on your usage, you may have some left when you get home.
The battery on the Camon 17 Pro supports 25W fast charging which is not the fastest one out there but fast enough to top up the battery when running low.
Build Quality
The Tecno Camon 17 Pro feels well built even though the back is made of plastic. It does feel like it is worth the money Tecno is asking for. The phone is easy to hold with just one hand and is not too heavy to carry around.
