OPPO has today officially unveiled its latest smartphone, the OPPO Reno 5, in Kenya. This is the first major release by the company in the country this year and in addition to the Reno 5, the company also announced that the more affordable, Reno 5F, will also be available in the country in the coming weeks.
I have the Reno 5 in for review and have been using it for about a week and before I write down the full review, I thought I should highlight some of the top 5 things you need to know about this phone.
The OPPO Reno 5 replaces the Reno 4 that was quite a good phone and topping that will not be easy. The phone comes with some upgraded specs that may make it worth getting the Reno 5. The Reno 5 will be available on Pre-order from tomorrow (23 Feb) to March 1st. You can pre-order the Reno 5 through Jumia, Kilimall and Masoko.
Below are some of the 5 things I think you should know about the OPPO Reno 5.
Price
The first thing anyone would want to know is how much the phone will be available for. The OPPO Reno 5 in kenya is available for Ksh 41,999 which is right around where the Reno 4 has been available for. For this same price, you get upgraded cameras, software, hardware just to name a few.
64MP Main Camera
With the OPPO Reno 5, we are getting a 64MP main sensor at the back as part of the quad camera setup with the others being an 8MP ultrawide sensor, 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. In comparison, the Reno 4 came with a 48MP main sensor which was still good.
The 64MP main sensor on the Reno 5 takes some good shots from the few minutes I have spent with this phone. The shots are very clear and detailed and the colour balance is quite good even in different lighting conditions.
44MP Selfie Camera
For selfies, the OPPO Reno 5 comes with a 44MP single sensor compared to the 32MP selfie camera we had on the Reno 4. The 44MP selfie camera is quite an improvement and overall good. OPPO smartphones are known for their superior camera performance and the Reno 5 is not any different. The selfie shots you get with this phone will be worth it.
Snapdragon 720G Processor.
As for the processor, we are getting the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor that we had on the Reno 4. Performance on the Reno 4 was good and for the few days I have been using the Reno 5, it has been good so far.
For software, we are getting Android 11 out of the box which is more optimized compared to Android 10 that we have on the Reno 4. I will be using this phone extensively and share my thoughts on the software and performance after that.
50W Super VOOC Fast Charging
The OPPO Reno 5 comes with a slightly bigger battery of 4310 mAh. This is not the biggest battery out there but is still quite big and to make it even better, the phone does support 50W Super VOOC fast charging that will charge the phone faster than the 30W fast charging that was on the Reno 4.
Having used the 50W Super VOOC Fast charge, I can say it is fast and will be helpful when you want to top up your battery quickly and do not have an hour or so to wait for your phone to fully charge. The included charging adapter supports this fast charging so you will need it to get these fast charging speeds.
