HMD Global has announced plans to launch the entry level, Nokia 1.4 smartphone, in Kenya. The company has announced this today but did not give the exact date as to when we should expect to see this phone in the country. With the announcement though, I expect the launch to be in late February or early March.

Given that the company has not shared any details on the availability of this phone, we also do not know how much it will be retailing for.

The Nokia 1.4 is the latest entry level smartphone from HMD Global family. It is an Android Go device and with that you expect it to be optimized to perform well even with its entry level specs. It acts as the successor to the Nokia 1.3 from last year.

Nokia 1.4 Specifications

The Nokia 1.4 comes with slightly upgraded specifications when compared to its predecessor but the pure Android experience has not changed. Being the only brand that prioritises the pure Android experience, HMD is able to create a niche for its products and not necessarily compete with others on the specifications.

With the pure Android experience, you get the software as Google intended it to be with no bloatware or changes that may end up affecting performance. You also get a number of trimmed down apps (referred to as Go or Lite apps) that ensure you get to enjoy the services they offer without the apps hogging the resources on your phone. This is especially important for entry level devices that may not have all the powerful specs we see on more expensive phones. The Nokia 1.4 runs Android 11 (Go Edition) which is the upgraded version.

Besides the software, the Nokia 1.4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 processor paired with either 1, 2 or 3GB RAM options. For storage, the phone is available in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB options with support for microSD card that supports 128GB cards.

For the display, we are getting a 6.5-inch HD+ one with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Above the display and housed in a waterdrop notch is the 5MP front facing camera.

At the back we do have a dual camera setup made up of an 8MP main sensor and a 2MP macro lens. All these are housed in a circular camera module.

Powering the Nokia 1.4 is a 4,000 mAh battery that should be enough to last for three or so days considering the fact that this phone is not power hungry.

Since HMD Global has not revealed the launch and pricing details, we will have to wait a bit longer to get that information.
