Samsung has unveiled its first Galaxy S series smartphone with support for its stylus pen, Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Galaxy S21 Ultra was launched alongside a standard S21 and vanilla S21 Plus.

The trio features a refreshed design to last year’s S20 series and will be going for a starting price of Ksh 100,000.

Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus maintain the same display size as 2020’s predecessors. The S21 has a 6.2-inch display while the S21 Plus has a bigger 6.7-inch panel both with 1080 resolution and 120Hz dynamic refresh rate.

However, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has a slightly smaller 6.8-inch display unlike last year’s S20 Ultra with its 6.9-inch panel. It’s an OLED display with 3200 x 1440 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate which can be achieved at full resolution. The Ultra’s 6.9-inch panel also includes 515ppi, HDR10+ certification and support for the stylus pen.

In the memory department, the Galaxy S21 series ships with 8GB RAM on the base and Plus model. The Ultra model has 12GB RAM as the minimum.  Under the hood of the trio is Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2100 processor or Snapdragon 888. And the trio’s battery capacity includes 4000mAh for the standard S21, 4800mAh for the Plus model and 5000mAh for the Ultra model.

Just like earlier leaks suggested, Galaxy S21 Ultra packs four cameras on the rear: two telephoto lens with 10MP each, 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 108MP wide-angle lens. The S21 and S21 Plus have three identical rear cameras: a 12MP ultrawide, 12MP wide and a 64MP telephoto lens.

On the front is a 10MP camera on the S21 and regular S21 Plus while the Ultra packs a 40MP lens. The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus have 30x space zoom instead of the 100x space zoom that can be achieved with the high-end S21 Ultra.

The premium price extras include 5G(NSA/SA for S21 and mmWave for S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra), IP68 rating, wireless charging, Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor, and more.

The trio comes in variable memory configurations as follows:

  • S21: 8GB + 128GB/ 256GB
  • S21 Plus: 8GB + 128GB/256GB (5G) or 8GB + 128GB (LTE)
  • S21 Ultra: 12GB + 128/256GB or 16GB + 512GB

The Ultra is the heaviest of the three weighing 227g while the standard S21, as expected, weighs less – just 169g.
