Major changes in Xiaomi’s Latest Custom ROM MIUI 12.5 and List of Eligible Devices

As it has always been with a couple of the previous MIUI builds, the latest version MIUI 12, is also getting some major improvements. The update, dubbed MIUI 12.5, follows MIUI 12 that was launched globally in mid-2020, based on Android 10.

But since Xiaomi independently works on its custom ROM without waiting for Google to release updates, the company has already started rolling out MIUI 12 based on Android 11.

Despite shying away from a jump to MIUI 13, Xiaomi says MIUI 12.5 is a completely new version disguised as a DLC. Right off the bat, Xiaomi compares MIUI 12.5 to iOS in transition effects.

Yes, MIUI 12.5 includes major improvements not just from the aesthetics and visual design alone but also under the hood.  MIUI 12.5 is lighter, faster, and more power-efficient. Xiaomi offered some numbers in its presentation. The company said MIUI 12.5 is 25% more power efficient, uses 20% less memory, and uses 35% less background memory.

Bloatware has been reduced in MIUI 12.5, only leaving a handful of them. UI transition effects have been revamped; there’s a new set of dynamic “Super” wallpapers, enhanced notification sounds and haptics, and more privacy.

So far, Xiaomi has listed over 20 eligible devices that will receive MIUI 12.5. The company will open the MIUI 12.5 Public beta program mid-month.
