Pirating media content is popular, especially in areas where the internet cost is high or there’s unreliable connection. Despite the wide variety of VOD streaming platforms, content piracy still troubles the media production industry.
For the first time, Disney’s smash hit TV Series, the Mandalorian, topped the unfortunate chart as the most pirated TV Show in 2020.
The Mandalorian surpassed HBO’s infamous epic TV series, Game of Thrones, which held the throne for seven consecutive years after the final season aired in 2019.
Data from popular torrenting site BitTorrent saw the Mandalorian climb two positions to first from position three in 2019.
The top ten list includes Prime Video’s “The Boys” at position two, HBO’s Westworld (3), Vikings(4), Star Wars: Picard(5), Rick and Morty(6), The Walking Dead(7), The Outsider(8), The Arrow(9) and the Flash(10).
Missing shows that were among the most torrented via BitTorrent in 2019 but didn’t make it to the top last year include Chernobyl, Game of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory, and Supergirl.
