A Guide to Getting Started with Safaricom’s Data Statement

Safaricom data statement

If you are like most people, you access the internet through your phone and may not really know which applications or services use most of your data. This is especially so if you are always on your phone, you may think that most of your data is used by a certain application but in reality it is not.

For Safaricom subscribers, there is an easier way to find out where most of your data went to. This is thanks to the data statements that can show you what you used your data for. This information will be presented and organized clearly to show you the platforms that used most of your data for a given period of time. You can adjust this time period to fit perfectly into the dates you are interested in.

Safaricom data statement is designed for all users who may want to have all the details of which platforms use most of their data and by how much. This should be everyone using mobile data to be honest as the limited nature of this data means that you have to utilize it efficiently. For you to use it efficiently, you have to know which applications are using most of the data in the first place.

What is the Data Statement?

As highlighted above, data statements let you see which apps and platforms consume most of your data. Most of us tend to think we know the applications that use most of our data but you may be surprised if you see the actual data. There are some applications that are usually running in the background using your data and you may not even be aware. These may use so much of your data over an extended period of time if you are not careful.

Having a way to monitor how your data is used can be insightful for most people who may not have had an easier way to find out this information before. You can then use this information to restrict background data use if there are applications that use so much of your data in the background or you may take other measures that will keep your mobile data use under control

The data you buy should serve you well and not be used by platforms or services without your knowledge. This is why knowing which of these platforms use most of your data and by how much is key. With the data statement, you will get information on data usage including dates, time, MBs consumed and the platforms you have visited such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc.

How to access Safaricom’s Data Statement

To access the data statement page:

  • Dial *544#
  • Select ‘Check Balance’ (Option 7)

You will get the usual text message with your data and airtime balance. There will be a link on this message which you should click to see your data usage statement.

The link redirects to www.safaricom.com/account/usage. Mobile data is required to access this page and if you are visiting it for the first time, you will receive an SMS with a code which you will be required to enter on the site to access the data statement.

When you access the data statement page for the first time, you will be rewarded with 200MB of data valid for 24 hours.

Once you access your data statement, you can drill down on a specific platform eg YouTube and see how much data you consumed on the specific dates you selected. With such detailed stats, you can figure out why you may have used a certain amount of data on a certain day and maybe cut on that if it is possible.

You can choose to see data consumption for one day or for a given period. This can be helpful if you feel like during a certain period you may have used more data than you expected. In such cases, you can go to the data statement and drill down to see the applications responsible to this and take action.
