Like many other Chinese smartphone makers, Oppo has its own custom skin built on top of Android. Now the company reveals that it has over 370 million active users using its custom skin every month.
Just in case you haven’t been following up on this milestone news, the company announced it had surpassed the 300 million mark in June 2019. By April this year, Oppo revealed more than 350 million users were using ColorOS from month-to-month as of March.
The Chinese tech company released the first version of the skin in 2013, which has received incremental improvements year after since.
The latest version of ColorOS, called ColorOS 11, is based on Google’s latest Android 11, was previously called ColorOS 7, and is a successor to ColorOS 6 released in March last year.
OPPO changed its naming strategy to make it easier for its customers to identify the Android version under the hood. ColorOS 11 was released in September soon after Google launched Android 11 and is currently available on select phones.
Oppo has already updated the OPPO Find X2, Find X2 Pro, and Find X2 Pro Automobili Lamborghini Edition and plans to roll it out to 25 other models including Reno4, Reno3, and Oppo F17 Pro.
The company was ranked sixth in the global smartphone market, with 31.1 million units shipped in Q3, just 0.7 million behind Chinese rival Vivo, according to the latest report from Canalys.
Since Oppo has been consistent with installing ColorOS on its devices, it’s no surprise that the numbers keep rising. ColorOS is available in over 72 languages and is being used by people from over 140 countries worldwide.
