Instagram has some big changes coming in the latest update. The update emphasizes Facebook’s latest features on the app, Reels, and e-commerce. It aligns with the latest explosion in online shopping and short-video clips resulting from sheltering in place orders.
The Reels tab will be where users can easily find short fun videos on Instagram.
“we’re rolling out the Reels tab to be a kind of a stage, a place where people can share their creativity with the world and have a chance to break out and find an audience,” Facebook said.
The Shopping tab will feature products from different businesses and creators. Additionally, Instagram has moved the posts and likes button to the top right adjacent to the new DM button.
This is the biggest change Instagram has made so far in quite a while, and Facebook acknowledges that. The new changes are to make the platform continue keeping young people and creators engaged, so Instagram doesn’t become irrelevant.
“how people create and enjoy culture has changed, and the biggest risk to Instagram is not that we change too fast, but that we don’t change and become irrelevant,” the company said.
“We’re excited about the new design and believe it gives the app a much-needed refresh, while staying true to our core value of simplicity.”
Instagram has introduced lots of new features since the year started to suit the changing needs and capitalize on the latest trends. They recently increased the hours users can go live to four, and Instagram users can now chat with Facebook Messenger users without switching apps. Plus, a couple of other subtle yet necessary adjustments.
