Microsoft Office Adds Trackpad and Mouse Support on the iPad

American tech company, Microsoft, has updated its Microsoft 360 apps on the iPad to include trackpad and mouse support. The added functionality means that users of the latest iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad models get to experience a desktop-like experience when using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Microsoft promises easy cursor control, fluid navigation, and precise adjustments when using the mouse or Apple’s new Magic Keyboard on the three apps. The support bridges the gap between working on Office apps the iPad and using a PC or a Mac.

It adds a desktop-like experience on performing tasks on the mentioned iPad models. You can easily select a range of cells in Excel, highlighting a text passage, and resize graphics. The cursor also transforms depending on what you’re pointing to.

Apple paved the way for such functionality in March this year when the company unveiled the new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. The duo included full mouse cursor support and could also be paired with a trackpad.

Thankfully, Apple announced its own pricey fully compatible Magic Keyboard that can be bought alongside. It was meant to give the iPad versatility to essentially become the only computer you ever need. The Magic Keyboard sports full-size backlit keys, a USB Type C port for charging and can be adjusted at variable angles. Besides adding more functionality to the iPad, it also helps protect it from the front and back.

Besides Trackpad and Mouse support, Microsoft has also updated Office apps on iPadOS with new start screens and a new ribbon of feature menus.  The two are now in tandem with the company’s recently adopted Fluent UI design theme.

All of these features have started rolling out in phases and should have everyone covered within a couple of weeks, according to Microsoft.
