LG’s Futuristic Rollable TV Goes On Sale Starting at $87000

LG SIGNATURE OLED R 05 scaled 1

LG’s futuristic rollable TV, LG SIGNATURE OLED R (model RX), has finally made it to the mass market. The company’s new TV is the world’s first TV with a rollable OLED panel and will cost KRW 100 million in South Korea, or about USD 87,000 (about Ksh 9.5 m).

LG first showcased the TV at CES 2018, and despite the bumps in the road, LG has, finally, delivered.

LG SIGNATURE OLED R features a 65-inch flexible 8K OLED display. The R in the name, according to the company, symbolizes the rollable nature of the TV.

The company boasts of the rollable TV as the “Most Innovative Development in Television Technology in Decades.” It features a polished aluminum casing and what LG calls a modern wool speaker cover that comes in four shades – Signature Black, Moon Gray, Topaz Blue, or Toffee Brown.

The rollable nature means your TV is just a button away from disappearing from the surrounding into its aluminum casing.

Depending on your preferences, you can open the TV partially or fully. But, why wouldn’t you want to watch the full 65-inch display anyway?

For those who may need that, LG’s rollable TV has three different viewing formats: Full View, Line View, and Zero View. Aside from the groundbreaking rollable OLED panel, this TV features all the bells and whistles found in premium TVs out there.

“The seamless marriage of technological and design innovation demonstrated in LG SIGNATURE OLED R is an unprecedented feat that genuinely deserves to be called a work of art,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment Company.

“This is a true luxury product that reimagines what television can be, this unique TV delivers a differentiated user experience and a new way of thinking about space while once again confirming LG’s leadership in the premium TV market.”
