Airtel Kenya has today announced the launch a new streaming application. This new application, the Airtel TV app, is designed to offer Airtel subscribers entertainment through their smartphones.
“Airtel TV is set to revolutionize the video on demand & Live TV viewing experience via smartphones, offering Airtel customers access to the very best shows, movies and live television engagements for free. Airtel TV has no monthly subscriptions and is accessible as long as you have data for streaming,” said Airtel Networks Kenya Ltd CEO Prasanta Das Sarma.
Below are some of the things you should know about the Airtel TV app.
No Subscription Required
According to Airtel Kenya, this is a no subscription service so users will not be paying any monthly subscription costs. This is a unique strategy to be honest but is a better way to get people to download the app and start using it immediately.
Even though it is a no subscription service, the company still promises to offer a wide range of content from Movies, Drama, Documentaries, Music and Cartoons. Premium content from the top Studios including Universal, Nickelodeon and the BBC are also available.
For Airtel Subscribers only
This service is free but is available to Airtel subscribers only. To enforce this, the company requires the use of an Airtel phone number to register for an account. When streaming, the use of Airtel mobile data is required as you cannot do that through Wi-Fi as I have noticed. This makes sense since the service is free and probably the company handles some of the payment to the content providers in some way.
