Utilising Bonga Points
During the current pandemic, Safaricom has found ways for people to use their accumulated bonga points and this has helped reduce the accumulation of the points. In its books, Bonga points are treated as liabilities and are only regarded as revenue when customers use them. This is why coming up with initiatives such as the ones we have seen during the pandemic have helped the company get people to use their accumulated points.
According to Safaricom, about 1 billion points valued at Ksh 301 million were redeemed for two months leading to June 4. These were the two crucial months when Safaricom had just launched the initiative to get its customers to buy goods and services using Bonga point. With the economic times still being tough, people will appreciate having options for paying for their needs even when they are tight on cash.
