The Huawei Y8p is one of the two latest smartphones from the company to launch in Kenya. The phone has been available on pre-order in Kenya from June 15 all through to June 20. That means that you should be able to get the Huawei Y8p in Kenya right now.
The Huawei Y8p comes into the market a few weeks after the unveiling of the Huawei Y7p. You can get the Y7p in Kenya for Ksh 18,000. With the launch of the Y8p, the company has also launched the Huawei Y6p that is available at a lower price.
I have a review unit and decided to highlight some of the things those interested in buying this phone should know. Here are five of those things.
The Price
One of the most important things to know is the Huawei Y8p price in Kenya. The phone is available in retail stores across the country for Ksh 25,000. You can get the phone from Jumia and most other smartphone retailers in kenya.
At this price, the Huawei Y8pis cheaper than the Huawei Nova 7i that was launched in the country not so long ago.
No Google Play Services
With the current US ban, Google isn’t allowed to do business with Huawei and to some extent that meant that Huawei phones could not come with Google Play and Google Mobile services. The phone still works perfectly but that is something that anyone who buys this phone needs to know. Huawei has replaced Google services with its own services that ensure smooth performance of the apps.
With the lack of Google Play Services, you will not be able to access the Google Play Store on the phone. This is not a big deal and Huawei has its own app store called App Gallery. You can get some of the popular applications you have used before on the App Gallery and if anyone is missing, there are other third party tools like APK Pure that most likely have them.
Below is a post looking at ways to install some of your favourite apps on a Huawei phone with no Google services.

OLED Display
The Huawei Y8p comes with an OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. This display is good, I have been using it for a few days and I love it. It is a lot better than the one we saw on the Huawei Y7p.
This is a 6.3-inch display that is crisp with very good viewing angles and amazing colour reproduction. The display is good enough for media consumption and almost anything you may want to do with it.
There is no fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone as that has been moved under the display. Setting it up is easy and the steps are similar to the ones you would follow when setting up any other fingerprint scanner.
The scanner works perfectly and is quite accurate. I haven’t had any problems with it so far and I am not anticipating any to be honest. The fingerprint scanner can also be used to access the ‘Safe’ that you setup to protect your privacy by encrypting your photos, videos and music.
Triple Back Camera
The Huawei Y8p has a triple camera setup at the back. This is not unique in 2020 but the results you get from the back camera are amazing.
The main sensor is a 48MP one supported by an 8MP ultrawide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. You can record full HD videos at 60 frames per second and can also record slow motion videos. A few extra camera features include Night mode, portrait mode, panorama, HDR, Pro mode just to name a few.
The results I got so far are quite good, I will be testing the camera more and share my experience in the full review.
Quite Powerful
The Huawei Y8p is quite a powerful device. It is powered by the Kirin 710F processor that Huawei has paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. It does feel snappy and should not disappoint most buyers who end up getting it.
As for the GPU, the phone comes with the Mali-G51 MP4 that should handle things well. I will try and play a few games on this phone and see how it handles that.
