After working tirelessly to try and catch up with its peers in the video conferencing market, Google isn’t stopping there. The company has been pushing its video calling products – Google Meet, Google Duo – to the public since the market boom earlier this year.
Take Google Meet, for example. Google Meet was a paid product but Google decided to open it up and make it free to all Gmail users – although with some limitations. Besides that, the product itself has been continuously updated with new features to make it better like the competition.
To push it even more on its huge Gmail user base, the company added a Google Meet button inside the web version of its email service.
(In case you haven’t noticed yet, a Google Duo button has also been added to Google’s Phone app.)
But soon, Google is about to bring Meet even near to you – inside Gmail on Android and iOS. Soon, you’ll have two tabs inside Gmail, a Mail tab, and a Google Meet tab. The tab will enable you to start/join a meeting, schedule a meeting in Google Calendar, and provide you with a list of upcoming meetings. You’ll also be able to choose to call via audio or video in the meeting’s preview page which details some info about the call before jumping in.
The main advantage of the Google Meet integration inside Gmail is convenience. You can jump in a meeting directly from your inbox without a hassle.
However, if the whole Google Meet tab idea doesn’t sit well with you, there will be an option to hide it. This will be done via the Settings section where you’ll receive a new option called Google Meet that you have to uncheck.
