Epic Games, the developers behind Fortnite, have finally published this popular game on the Google Play Store. This popular game has not been available on the Play Store as the developers were not willing to part with the 30% cut Google keeps for all in-app purchases.
When Epic Games released the Android version of Fortnite, they were vocal about the high percentage fees that are charged by both Apple and Google for having apps and in-app purchases in their app stores. The developers released the mobile game which could be downloaded through its website, a move aimed at bypassing Google Play Store policies. This meant that the developers would not pay the 30% fee of their earnings to Google.
As Epic Games found alternatives to still be in business, Google was working on measures that made it difficult for apps not released through the Play Store to succeed. There were a number of restrictive measures employed that made limited the success of Fortnite.
With all that was going on, Epic Games saw it fit to publish Fortnite on the Play Store. The developers still believe that the 30% fee Google takes is too high but this is the best avenue for them right now. They hope that in the future Google will rethink this cut but for now they have to be in bed with the search giant.
