HMD Global has kept its promise of updating its devices with the latest versions of Android. The company has done this consistently even for some of its entry level devices. This has been the case the last couple of years and will be the case for years to come.
The latest device added to the list of Nokia phones with Android 10 is the Nokia 2.3. The company confirmed last month that this phone was to get this update by the end of Q2 2020. With this update, the Nokia 2.3 becomes the eleventh phone by HMD to get Android 10. This is a commendable job given the fact that some manufacturers are yet to roll out the update to any of their devices.
The availability of this update was confirmed by HMD Global’s Juho Sarvikas. The update will not roll out to all users at the same time as first it will be available to 10% of the devices. Tomorrow about 50% of the units will have it and on April 26, all Nokia 2.3 devices in the countries in the first wave will have received the update.
The first wave of this roll out is available in the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Tunisia, UAE, Ukraine, and Yemen.
For us in Kenya, we will have to wait for the second wave that will kick off at a later date. This update brings gesture navigation, smart reply and improved privacy controls to this entry level phone.
The Nokia 2.3 was unveiled in Kenya for Ksh 12,300 making it one of the cheap smartphones by HMD Global.
