Apple Music, now Available via Web, Expands to More African Countries

Apple Music, which has been previously reported having over 60 million subscribers worldwide as of June last year, is seeking to have more users under its sleeve. The platform has been expanded to an additional 52 countries mostly in Africa, and in other regions as well, including Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean.

New subscribers will enjoy a six-month free trial before they can commit to either the personal, family, or student subscription plans.

Here is list of countries in Africa now with access to Apple Music;

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zambia.

Besides, the company has also added web-access to its music streaming service. Apple Music has been having a beta underway since September and now that the program has exited the channel, anyone can access by going to music.apple.com.

The web version has quite familiar design language to the macOS app. You get the same layout, with media control buttons located at the top, a left-aligned navigation bar with the same “For You,” “Browse,” and “Radio” tabs.

Additionally, there is an “open in iTunes” or “open in Music” located on the left, depending on the platform you use, which provides a quick link to either iTunes or Apple Music app directly.

Which means one thing: this is merely a supplement. But if you actually look at the numbers, it is clear that most music streamers use respective streaming mobile applications instead of PCs or laptops.

Recent research from ComScore showed that audiences in the US alone spend 96.9 percent of monthly total minutes on mobile apps. Desktop follows with 2.7 percent while the mobile web accounts for just 0.4 percent of the total monthly minutes.

But web access is also an added advantage and will help the company capture those numbers, though seemingly minute, that they have been missing. Apple Music’s serial competitor Spotify, as well as Amazon Music, are both available via mobile apps and via the web.
