MIUI 12 is set to be officially unveiled in China on April 27th, which is Monday next week, according to the company. The company’s main china office broke the news on Weibo, the Chinese only twitter-like social media platform.
MIUI 12 follows the current MIUI 11 iteration which has to date been pushed to more Xiaomi devices. Like previous versions of MIUI, MIUI 12 will be based on Android 11 which the beta is already out.
But Xiaomi does its things a bit differently, sometimes developing new MIUI custom ROMs independent of the android version. That is why your phone may get MIUI 12 but it may not be based on the upcoming Android version – the same has been seen on MIUI 11.
Some early leaks on the new iteration have suggested a new version of dark mode dubbed Dark Mode 2.0 which should automatically adjust the contrast and font weight based on ambient brightness — to help reduce glare and blur. Dark Mode 2.0 will additionally dim the wallpaper with a gradual light transition instead of uniformly.
“Rather than simply suppressing black, it is accurate dimming at the pixel level, simulating the change of light and dark in the real world, restoring true colors, and [making] dark colors… more natural,” the company wrote on Weibo(Translated from Chinese by Google Translate)
