The Tecno Camon 15 is the latest device from the company to launch in Kenya. The phone has been available on pre-order in the country for quite sometime now.
The Camon 15 is the successor to the Camon 12 which was launched in the country not so long ago. I have a unit to review and with that I had to do my first impressions of this phone just to see what it has to offer before publishing the full review in about a week or so. Watch the video below.
The Tecno Camon 15 is the first smartphone from the company to launch in Kenya this year and as with other Camon devices, it is a camera-centric phone with a quad camera setup. The phone will be available in Kenya for around Ksh 18,000.
Before we get to the first impressions, let us first look at some of the key specifications of the phone.

Processor: MediaTek Helio P22
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 64 GB internal storage, expdandable
Cameras: 48MP quad rear camera, 16 MP front-facing camera

Battery: 5,000 mAh battery

Design
The design and build quality of the Tecno Camon 15 feels quite good. Yes, the back is made of plastic and does not feel premium but the overall design still looks good. The plastic back cover is not removable and this means that you have no access to the battery, not that big of a deal these days.
The Tecno Camon 15 is massive but does not feel outrageous. It can still be used with one hand but may not be the most comfortable way for those with small hands. The display is a 6.55 inch one with a 720p resolution. This Is a 720p resolution but it still looks good from the few days I have spent with it. I will share more about it in the full review.
The Tecno Camon 15 has a punch hole at the top left corner of the display to house the front facing camera. This is a 16MP camera that takes some decent shots but nothing out of the ordinary. Tecno has put so much of its resources on the back camera. Again, I will dive deep into the camera in the full review.
For the back camera, we are getting a 48MP main shooter with two 2MP and a QVGA secondary cameras. The shots taken with the back camera are quite good to be honest, well detailed and with very good contrast and saturation. This is expected as this is a camera-centric smartphone and Tecno had to ensure it gets things right with it.
The overall design of this phone feels good, the back is made of plastic but still feels and looks different. The camera arrangement and Camon branding will definitely attract attention.
Under the Hood
Powering the Tecno Camon 15 is the MediaTek Helio P22 processor that has been paired with 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage space. For the short time I have spent with this phone, the processor handled all tasks with ease. The RAM is also adequate and I have no complaints about its performance so far.
The Camo 15 comes with Android 10 out of the box, the first smartphones from Tecno to do so. With this, you get to use and interact with everything that is new with Android 10.
So far, the experience with the Tecno Camon 15 has been good. I would be looking into the performance experience in the full review to see how Tecno’s implementation of Android 10 compares to some other devices out there.
One last thing that I love about the Tecno Camon 15 is the battery. The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery that lasts long. It is impressive how long it lasts. In most cases I had to confirm that the phone was still on as I was expecting the battery to be low and it wasn’t.
So far, the Tecno Camon 15 has impressed me, I hope the case will be the same when the full review is up.
