If you ever believed the Gods must be Crazy, then the same logic should be applied for humans as well. In an era where consumers have to make choices often – between Android and iOS, Mac and Windows, etc. – here is a project that aims to unite the mobile platform users by leveraging the best of both worlds: iPhones’ superior hardware and the open nature of the Android OS.
As you might already know, these two groups – iOS and Android fanboys – never stop throwing insults at each other. But under Project Sandcastle the main aim to bring a unification point; running Android on the iPhone – if, presumably, that sounds well to Apple fanboys.
Project Sandcastle is an Android for the iPhone project that “gives you the freedom to run a different operating system on that hardware.”
Typically, “The iPhone restricts users to operate inside a sandbox. But when you buy an iPhone, you own the iPhone hardware,” the team states.
The Project is currently in the beta phase, with limited testing. With that said, it is limited to iPhone 7 or 7 Plus and still has tons of “bugs” to deal with.
Some of these include incapability of GPU, audio output, cellular modem, Bluetooth, and camera to work.
That’s beside the immense reduction of battery life and performance; which is not surprising since iPhone 7’s battery capacity barely hits the 2000mAh mark and factoring in the poor resource management of the Android OS.

“Project Sandcastle is about building something new on the silicon of your hardware,” reads a statement on the official blog. The project itself if not new. It was launched over a decade ago with two developers, David Wang (@planetbeing) and Chris Wade (@cmwdotme), who started working on a way to port Android to the original iPhone.
