Vivo APEX 2020 Concept Phone has Extremely Curved Edges and Ground-breaking Camera Technology

vivo APEX 2020 concept phone

Vivo’s APEX Concept phones have, for the past two years, been used by the company to showcase the futuristic mobile technology breakthroughs under development at their R&D labs. The concept phone has long defined the cool future of vivo phones in the mobile industry, as a result.

Last year’s 2019 APEX Concept Phone did showcase cool features, and this year’s model takes over from that point. As a refresher, the phone had a full display fingerprint reader and lacked mechanical buttons – opting for touch-sensitive ones.

Fast forward to the vivo APEX 2020 Concept phone where the company showcases another set of breakthrough technology. The phone has a 6.45-inch 1080p “fullview edgeless” display that has extreme 120-degree curved edges. Like last year’s model, the APEX 2020 Concept has no openings and no ports. Instead, you have to use virtual buttons.

On the camera department, there is a 16MP lens placed right under the display; no notch, hole punch, or any of that. For this, vivo says they have worked on the display at that point to ensure improved light transmittance. Vivo has also used algorithmic optimizations to keep camera quality in check.

For the rear camera, the 2020 APEX Concept phone has a real motorized 16MP lens (6.2mm thick), which delivers 5 to 7.5x optical zoom. Another novel feature is a gimbal on the 48MP primary camera lens that promises to take image stabilization on smartphones to another level. Vivo says the gimbal performs 200-percent better compared to OIS.

Apart from all these goodies, included in the package is Qualcomm’s most potent Snapdragon 865 chipset, 12GB of memory, 256GB of storage, 5G, and 60W wireless charging.

Notably, keep in mind this phone will never go on sale – it’s just a concept. But in the future, we expect vivo to avail some of these features to their commercial devices.
