Instagram May Reintroduce the Chronological Display of Posts

A few years back, Instagram posts were displayed in a chronological order. With this, you got to see posts from the most recent ones as you scroll down your timeline.

In 2016, Instagram decided to shake things up a bit by ditching the chronological appearance of posts for an algorithm-based one. The posts users got to see were not displayed in the order they were posted but they were based on the algorithm. The main aim of this was to get people to see the content they actually want to see and interact with but at the same time this meant that they would miss posts from some of the people they follow.

If the algorithm-based timeline did not do it for you, you may be happy to know that Instagram may re-introduce the chronological timeline that we dearly miss.

According to Jane Wong, the feature is currently being tested and will allow users to see the latest posts that they would have missed out on. We believe her as she has always been spot on with most of the leaks covering Instagram and Facebook.

This sounds like the chronological feed people are asking for. Similar, but not the same 👀 pic.twitter.com/AUMwlZGtUr

According to Wong, there will be a separate tab for the chronological posts and we will not be getting an option to switch timelines like we do have in Twitter. This sounds great but having the ability to switch timelines could have been much better in my opinion.

This feature is still being tested and we are not sure when it will roll out. I will keep an eye on it and update you when it arrives.
