The Taiwanese chipmaker Mediatek has continuously been updating its chipset series since last month. They have already added several options to their Dimensity chipset series and even the G Series, but it seems the game is still ongoing.
MediaTek announced the Helio G70 earlier this month and has, surprisingly, announced a new chipset dubbed G80. As the naming suggests, the G80 is positioned between this year’s G70 and 2019’s G90 which has already been seen on a couple of devices.
The new SoC is crafted out of 12nm processing technology. It is composed of an Octa-core CPU with maximum clocking speeds of up to 2.0GHz. The CPU arrangement is composed of two powerful ARM Cortex-A75 cores and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.
The CPU depends on the Mali-G52 GPU clocking at 950MHz for any graphical processing needs. The chipset features MediaTek’s HyperEngine Game technology for smooth gaming as well as built-in VoW (voice on wakeup) that keeps in check power consumption for voice assistant commands. The proprietary HyperEngine technology also brings intelligent switching between LTE + WiFi.
Midrange phones rocking this new chipset as well as the G70 are expected to start selling in the Indian market soon.
