Social Media platforms make pretty good money these days. Numbers are in the millennials, but with Generation Z here, social media platforms that evolve with them are, for no doubt, promised a better future.
That is what every new social media platform is or should be targeting. With the tremendous growth of TikTok, there is no doubt on how millennials and the more modern Generation Z folks want to interact with their peers. It seems to be all in the short videos.
Short video platforms like TikTok, Likee, and more have become staple use for millennials. Traditional social platforms like Instagram and Facebook are proving to be just not that thing yet to them.
What’s proving to be beneficial to them is that they can grow to become very popular, unlike traditional social media platforms which have long proved to be places for celebrities to hang out.
Vine was a 6-second video platform that was laid to rest in January 2017, and two years later, byte was launched. If you miss Vine, then you’ll be happy to know that a replacement is now available.
Byte – available on both Android and iOS – works similarly. It helps you make and share short video clips with your fans. The same case applies to one of the world’s popular social app, TikTok, which is a bit different since users can share video clips up to one minute long.
Byte, as per now, is pretty basic with no additional necessities like filters and effects, for example. However, there are essentials available for easy usage like a feed for accounts you follow, an Explore page, notifications section, and a profile section.
The platform was created by Vine’s co-founder Dom Hofmann. According to him, the platform’s early focus will be to help content creators make money from their art. This could be a sweeter deal for content creators and would attract lots of them since most of the other platforms like TikTok, for example, does not have this feature.
“…very soon, we’ll introduce a pilot version of our partner program which we will use to pay creators. Byte celebrates creativity and community, and compensating creators is one important way we can support both. Stay tuned for more info,” said the company on Twitter.
Byte seems to be gaining traction at a fast pace. Since its launch on January 25th, the Android app has already hit 100,000 installs as per the time of writing.
In the longer run, Byte will need tremendous growth to reach the level of its competitors. TikTok just hit a lifetime of 1.65 Billion installs in the last quarter of 2019. Likee, a similar platform that seems to be a bit ahead of other small players in this space has over 100 million Play Store installs.
