The Infinix Hot 8 is finally available in Kenya and you can get it from Jumia starting from Ksh 11,000. The phone is also available through Infinix branded shops across the country. The Hot 8 comes to the market less than a year after the company unveiled its successor, the Infinix Hot 7. The company has been very busy this year and with the fast moving smartphone market, upgrading the Hot series was necessary before the end of the year.
I have a unit to review and I had to unbox it just to show you what you will be getting with this phone if you are planning to buy one. If you are interested in the unboxing video, you can check that out below.
The Infinix Hot 8 rivals the Tecno Spark 4, a device from the sister company that was launched in the country a few weeks back. The two devices are in a very competitive price segment and I can’t wait to see which one wins this battle.

First Impressions
The Infinix Hot 8 has a massive 6.6 Inch display but does not feel that big on my hands. I am used to having smartphones with such big displays and this one does not feel that big. Speaking of display, it has 720p resolution with a waterdrop notch at the very top. This is nothing new and this is pretty much the trend right now.
This display is very bright and it is even easy to use under direct sunlight. I love it so far, it looks like the perfect display for media consumption thanks to its size. It is also very responsive.
I got the Infinix Hot 8 in black but there are other colours to choose from including Cyan and Purple. All these are really good colours but something to note is that the back is made of plastic and is a fingerprint magnet. This is not a big issue but you should just be ready to wipe off the fingerprints when using this phone.
Still at the back is where we find the triple camera setup with quad LED flash and the fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner works really well and is accurate all the time. As for the three cameras, we have the main 13MP shooter, a 2MP one and a QVGA one. I will be testing out these cameras and share my thought on them in the full review, so far, I am impressed with what they have to offer. For the selfie camera, we do have an 8MP unit
Under the hood, the Infinix Hot 8 is powered by the 2 GHz MediaTek Helio A22 processor that has been paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. To help you manage the storage space, the phone comes with the Files by Google app as its default file manager app.
For the OS, the Infinix Hot 8 comes with Android 9 Pie out of the box with XOS 5.0.2. We are not getting Android 10 on Infinix phones yet and I am not sure if this phone is in line to get the update anytime soon.
One other thing about this phone is the 5,000 mAh battery it comes with. This is a massive battery and considering the fact that the phone is not that powerful, I expect this battery to last me a long time. The phone supports fast charging so you can charge it up very fast.
Initial Thoughts
I just got the Infinix Hot 8 and so far I am impressed. I am excited to see what it has to offer especially the battery and cameras. The display has really impressed me and the phone overall feels like good value for money. I will be using it for the next week and have the full review then, come back to see what I think about it.
