Google’s File manager app has long been lagging behind in terms of capabilities if you compare it with a ton of better options already available on the Google Play Store. Google is making some changes to the app but don’t get excited yet, the app is getting some changes but will not outshine its competitors. Google files app will only receive some few UI improvements, which add flavour to the overall beauty of the app.
In this update, the files app will receive new media controls that make it easier on your side while playing local media files. You will be able to skip, rewind, or fast-forward playing videos or files quickly. To be honest, for music streamers like me, the new update does not matter! –I’m sorry, Google.
So who is this update for? You may ask. Well, this is for those who still download media files from the internet to listen or watch offline at a later time. In the age where Netflix and music streaming apps make the headline of the day, current news about Google’s files app, sadly, does not count.
Additionally, in preparation for the upcoming system-wide dark mode in Android Q –set to be launched this month –the files app will also receive a dark UI, soon. Google, in their mini-blog today, revealed that files app now boasts a user base of 100million fans worldwide.
According to Google, about 8GB of data is saved by users every second using the built-in space-saving features. Files app is majorly used by users from developing countries with devices packed with few resources.
