The Huawei Y9 2019 was one of the company’s most popular and talked about smartphone of 2018. It was everywhere, online and offline and the sales were good from some of the stats that I have seen.
With the success of the Y9 2019, Huawei was definetly going to keep this series exciting. The company is planning a refresh for 2019 that it is calling the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. This phone is already on its way to Kenya and should be launched in the country next week.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 will be the company’s first smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera. With such a camera setup, the phone will have no notch above the display. If you are not a fan of smartphone notches, then this style may appeal to you as you are getting a different look that is not that common on the market. This is not the first smartphone brand to have a pop up camera, OPPO has done it before and has a couple of device available locally with this style.
Speaking of the soon to be launched device in the market, Huawei Mobile Country President, Steven Li said, “Huawei, a brand known for meaningful innovations for its users is constantly working at improving the smartphone experience. With the soon to be launched Y9 Prime 2019 we have paid close attention to camera and display that is aimed at attracting consumers who are looking for some of the most innovative features.”
Huawei has reiterated that the pop-up mechanism has been thoroughly tested for 100,000 pop-ups and retractions without any damage. With the notch gone, the company has moved the other sensors and components such as the receiver earpiece and ambient light sensor to the top and bottom of the screen respectively, effectively removing bezels and notches.
As for the price of the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, that is still a mystery but we will have all the details in about a week so stick around for that.

Statement from Huawei
With the drama that has been going on between Huawei and the US government, I was not expecting the company to launch this phone in the country at this time. Huawei is not worried about that at the moment and the company has confirmed that its existing and future devices will work as expected.
This is what the company has said so far:
Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products covering those have been sold or still in stock globally. We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.
