The Infinix S4 has been in retail stores in Kenya for Ksh 14,999 since its official launch back in April. This is the company’s latest selfie-focused smartphone that is available through its e-commerce platform Infinixmall. One smartphone the Infinix S4 is competing with is the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 that is available for Ksh 13,400 on Jumia.
With these two smartphones available on the market, if they are within your price range, you may be confused on what each has to offer and which one is perfect for you. In this post, I will be comparing the two phones to help you make that decision. I have already reviewed both phones individually and you can check those out using the links below.
The Cameras
The one big difference between the Infinix S4 and the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 is in the camera department. The Infinix S4 has three cameras at the back made up of 13MP, 8MP and 2MP sensors. The 13MP is the main one while the 8MP is the wide angle lens and the 2MP is the depth sensor. The back camera takes some good shots that are detailed and with the right amount of saturation. It struggles a bit in low light conditions but nothing serious. For the selfie camera, the S4 has a 32MP one that is really good, I do not have issues with it.
The Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 on the other hand has a 13MP main camera that is also good. I was surprised with the shots I got with this compared to S4. The camera is quite good even in low light conditions and you get amazing results for a 13MP sensor. It has an 8MP selfie camera that also does a good job but not as good as the one on the Infinix S4.
Overall, the cameras on the Infinix S4 are the best for those who take a lot of photos. You will get more realistic shots that need n further editing.
The Design and Build
We spend most of out time holding our phones as we use them. It is vital that your phone does not look like something from 2010. Smartphones have evolved over the years and they are necessary accessories in addition to helping us communicate with other people.
Both the Infinix S4 and Huawei Y9 2019 look the part and you will not be embarrassed when using either. The Infinix S4 has a generic design with sharp corners and a flat back. It is a massive device with a 6.2-inch display but using it with one hand is not a problem at all. The back cover is made of plastic and has a unique colour with glitters that are visible when exposed to very bright light.
The Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 in the other hand has a more modern design with slightly curved edges and a unique faux-leather back cover. It really looks different and definitely stands out as we rarely see smartphones that look like this on the market, especially within this price. The back cover feels really good and does not get hot even when using the phone for an extended period of time. The Y6 has a 6-inch display that is smaller than the S4 but not by much.
Between the two, I would go with the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 for the design and build quality, it just feels and looks different and better than the S4.
Display
The Infinix S4 comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display while the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 comes with a 6.09-inch HD+ one. The size difference here is not that big but if you are not a fan on huge displays, you can go with the Y6 as it is smaller.
Both displays are perfect for consuming media as you get so much space to enjoy that experience. Even with the HD+ resolution, watching movies on these displays is not bad, they are both good with great colour accuracy. Both Infinix and Huawei have embraced the waterdrop notch on their smartphones. You can hide both of them under settings if you want to.
The display of the Infinix S4 is on the warmer side compared to that of the Y6 Prime 2019. When compared side by side, you will notice the S4 display has a brownish tint compared to the Y6 that is clear. This is not a big deal but I had to mention that for those who may want to know.
Both displays have auto-brightness and this essentially means brightness should be adjusted automatically to make the phone easier to use in different lighting conditions. This feature on the Y6 Prime 2019 works perfectly but not so much for the one on the Infinix S4. I complained about this when reviewing the S4 as in most cases brightness is not adjusted when moving from a dark room/area to a bright one and vice versa. This is the only issue I have with this display as everything else is perfect for its price.
Verdict: Both are good displays. The right size and the right resolution. Of course, I would have preferred a Full HD resolution but HD+ is fine for this price.
Software and Performance
Both phones handle day to day tasks with ease and I have not had a bad experience with either. The Infinix S4 comes with a 2GHz Helio P22 processor (octa-core) from MediaTek paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. This is not a bad combination in any way for a smartphone available for this price. Apps run as you’d expect them to and even multitasking was not a problem on this phone.
On the other hand, the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 is powered by the 2GHz Helio A22 processor (quad-core) from MediaTek that is paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. This is not the perfect smartphone for multitasking when you compare it with the Infinix S4, the latter handles that much better in my opinion.
As for the OS, both come with Android 9.0 Pie with their own Custom UIs on top. The Infinix has XOS and the Huawei has EMUI. I have used EMUI over the years so I will definitely gravitate towards that. EMUI has way more features than XOS as it has been around for years and Huawei has managed to develop it to what it is.
Performance Summary: The Infinix S4 is the better option here, it has a slightly powerful processor and is better at multitasking. Even though both phones are good, comparing them directly shows how different the S4 is.
Battery
No one wants to start looking for a charging port after using their smartphone for just a couple of hours. The Infinix S4 comes with a 4000 mAh battery while the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 comes with a 3020 mAh. I am all for big batteries and the one on the S4 is perfect. I can comfortably use it for an entire day without limiting my usage. It is easy to get it to last the whole day as the phone is not that demanding on the battery. The battery on the Y6 Prime 2019 can also last an entire day but not as long as the one on the S4.
The Huawei Y6 comes with EMUI that has a number of battery saving options that extend the battery life but to be honest, I would have preferred a big battery like the one on the S4.
