The Tecno Spark 3 Pro Is Among the First Smartphones to Get Android Q Beta

Tecno spark 3 back

Tecno will be among the first smartphone brands to have a device with Android Q. The company’s latest smartphone, the Tecno Spark 3 Pro, was listed as being one of the first 15 devices that should be getting Android Q Beta as from today.

This is huge for Tecno as we do not associate the company with timely Android updates and to see it be part of the Android Q beta program is not something I expected. Tecno is yet to share some details about how Spark 3 Pro owners can go about getting Android Q beta but we should be expecting that from the company in the next few days or weeks.

This is the first time Tecno is part of Android’s beta program and it is probably the only device within this price range. I have not confirmed this so don’t hold that against me but Tecno Spark 3 Pro is available in Kenya from Ksh 11,800 while the other devices cost a little more.

Android Q beta

Tecno joins a handful of other smartphone manufacturers that have devices that can get Android Q beta. These devices are:

  • Google Pixel and Pixel XL
  • Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
  • Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL
  • Asus ZenFone 5Z
  • Essential PH-1
  • HMD Global Nokia 8.1
  • Huawei Mate 20 Pro
  • LG G8 ThinQ
  • OnePlus 6/6T/7
  • Oppo Reno
  • Realme 3 Pro
  • Sony Xperia XZ3
  • Vivo X27
  • Vivo NEX S
  • Vivo NEX A
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G
  • Xiaomi Mi 9

Some of the new features with Android Q include no-reboot security patches, Focus Mode, integrated parental controls, a system-wide dark mode, and the ability to use Smart Reply with every messaging app.

Besides the Tecno Spark 3 Pro, the Nokia 8.1 is also getting Android Q beta. I have the Nokia 8.1 which I reviewed a couple of weeks back and I am planning to install Android Q beta on that to see what it has to offer. For those with the Nokia 8.1, HMD Global has provided detailed steps to follow to get this version on the device.
