When it comes to timely updates on Android, we are used to seeing the mid and high-end devices getting updated first before the entry level phones. Some manufacturers don’t even push the latest updates to their entry level devices at all.

When HMD brought back the Nokia smartphones, the company was clear that it would support all the devices with at least 2 major OS updates, something you get from all other manufacturers. So far, HMD has rolled out the latest major release of Android, Android Pie, to the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 and now the company is pushing the same update to the entry level Android Go device, the Nokia 2.1.

This information was shared on Twitter by Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global.

The Nokia 2.1 was launched last year and came with Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) pre-installed. Getting Android Pie makes it the first Android Go device to get the update as far as I know (correct me if I am wrong).

Below are some of its key specifications.

Display Size: 5.5 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels

Processor: 1.5 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor

RAM: 1 GB

Storage Space: 8 GB, can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card

GPU: Adreno 308

Android Version: Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition), getting Android Pie

Connectivity: 2G/3G/4G

Camera: 8 MP Camera at the back with a 5 MP front facing one

Battery: 4000 mAh removable battery

Besides the Nokia 2.1, HMD plans to roll out Android Pie update to some of its other devices including the Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 in the coming weeks.
