Safaricom’s Daily Giga Bundle is Back

Safaricom Giga bundle

About 4 days ago, Safaricom introduced its new data bundles with the main selling point being that users are able to enjoy free WhatsApp even when they run out of data. This was all good but with the unveiling of these new bundles, the company axed the 1GB daily Giga bundle. This Giga bundle offers 1GB of data for Ksh 99 valid for 24 hours. This is a good deal and I shared my thoughts on it a few months ago and you can read all about that here.

When users noticed the 1GB Giga bundle was missing, most were not happy with the move. Even though the new bundles have their own advantages, many thought that the move to scrap the Giga bundle was not the best one. I am one of those people as I use the Giga bundle from time to time when I don’t have access to Wi-Fi and I really like it. This is one of the best product from Safaricom this year and it didn’t make sense from the company to kill it just like that.

Well, the backlash online has convinced the company to bring back the Giga bundle which users can get by dialling *544# or through the mySafaricom app. It offers the same 1GB of data but will not be offeering free WhatsApp after you run out of data like the new bundles from the company. The 1GB option for Ksh 99 is available under the daily data offering when you dial *544#.

As for the other Tunukiwa offerings, you still get them where they have been. The one that I like at the moment is the 2GB one for Ksh 50 valid for 1 hour. If you really need to use data for just an hour, this is the one to use.

I am yet to try out the new bundles from Safaricom but will be doing so very soon to see how the experience is using WhatsApp once you run out of data.
