OPPO has finally unveiled its latest smartphone in Kenya. This new smartphone, the OPPO F7, is now up for pre-order through Jumia and select offline stores from today to this coming Sunday (May 6). For those who are not willing to pre-order the device, you will be able to buy it from next week for Ksh 35,990.
This phone is the successor to the OPPO F5 that we saw towards the end of 2017. Just like the F5, the OPPO F7 is a camera-centric device that comes with a 25MP selfie camera that the company hopes will be appealing to the youth. With more consumers looking for devices that have superior cameras, OPPO wants such people to consider its phones including the F7.
OPPO has been positioning itself as the ‘Selfie expert and leader’ as it differentiates its products from those offered by competitors. This is not any different with the F7 and the company wants that to be clear. So far this has worked out well for the company as most people looking for good camera phones always consider OPPO.
The OPPO F7 comes with the dreaded notch at the very top. This is not that big of a deal for me but I am aware that some Android fans out there may not like it. Even though it is not that pretty to look at, I feel like the notch is one of those features that we can learn to live with as it is not going away anytime soon.
Some of the other key specifications of the OPPO F7 are listed below:

Competition is Tough
The OPPO F7 isn’t the only device targeting the youth, Tecno and Infinix have been aggressively trying this and the former even has the Tecno Camon X Pro that also has a 24MP selfie shooter. Huawei has also been trying to capture the youth the with Y7 Prime 2018 and the recently launched Huawei P20 Lite that is available on Jumia for Ksh 32,000.
The Huawei P20 Lite is competing with the OPPO F7 and is available at a lower price. The company wants to target those who may want to go with the OPPO F5 or the F7 by offering them a good device at a chaper price. It will be interesting to see which among the two brands dominates this market segment.
Going forward, you should expect to see more aggressive moves from the four brands, OPPO, Huawei, Tecno and Infinix, as they try to dominate this segment. What this means is that as consumers we will be getting good devices at affordable prices.
