HMD Global Launches the Nokia 1 in The Kenyan Market

Nokia 1 in Kenya 1

HMD Global has just expanded its budget portfolio in Kenya with the launch of the Nokia 1 in Kenya. The phone has a recommended retail price of Ksh 9,500 across the country. This is currently the cheapest Nokia smartphone in the country and joins the Nokia 2 that has been around since 2017.

At Ksh 9,500, the Nokia 1 is competitively priced as it is one of the cheapest smartphones in the Android One program. Speaking of Android, the Nokia 1 comes with Android Oreo (Go Edition). This is the version of Android that is specifically made for devices with 1GB of RAM or less. The Nokia 1 comes with 1GB of RAM with 8GB of internal storage space. Not the most appealing specifications you would want but this is not what the phone is about. According to HMD, the company has three main product pillars; to deliver in everyday life, leadership in materials and craftmanship and pure, secure and up to date Android. This means that HMD is not in the specifications race but rather it wants to deliver the best user experience.

In fact, HMD says that those who buy the Nokia 1 are guaranteed to get the next two major Android updates. This means that if you buy the phone, you are guaranteed to get Android P and even Android Q when they are both available. The company also promises timely updates so you will not have to wait a century to get the updates.

HMD Global knows how big and crucial the entry level segment is and that is why it is launching devices such as the Nokia 1 and the Nokia 2. The company says that it has deep insights of the smartphone market and this this means that it knows what consumers want. One of those things involves bringing some of the experience we tend to see on mid and high-end devices to the budget segment.
