Tecno Is Set to Launch A New Smartphone Next Month, Its Rumored to Have A Selfie Camera We Haven’t Seen in This Part of the World

Tecno camon x kenya

A couple of months back, Tecno introduced the Camon CM in Kenya. This was the company’s first device with the Full view display (or 18:9 aspect ration if you want to be technical). If you thought this was the only Camon device we will be seeing this year, then you are wrong. There is another Camon device that the company will be unveiling next month.

It name is rumoured to be the Tecno Camon X (the name has not been confirmed) and its global launch will be Nigeria. The company has been secretive about this phone but I first heard about it a few weeks after the Camon CM was launched. I am meant to understand that it will be way better than the Camon CM in terms of the overall design and specifications.

Camon x Kenya

I did not see the Camon CM as a complete upgrade when you compare it to the Camon CX from last year and I am excited to see what this new device from Tecno has to offer. Considering how secretive the company has been so far, I am expecting a completely upgraded device come next month.

The Camera is Still Key

Given that this will be a Camon device, the camera will still be key. I do not have the exact Megapixel count but rumours are that the selfie camera will have the largest number of megapixels we have seen on a front facing camera on a smartphone in Africa. Before you get triggered, Yes, I know the Megapixel count does not necessarily mean a better camera but it plays a major role in that.

The Tecno Camon CM has a 13MP front facing camera so we are expecting a bigger one on this new device, maybe 20MP or even more, who knows? With people taking more selfies these days than they did before, Tecno had to ensure it has the biggest megapixel count on a front facing camera. This will play a very big role when it comes to marketing this device as it will be an easy and clear way to get the attraction of potential customers.

Still on the front of this phone, there is talk that we will be getting a facial scanner for unlocking the phone. It looks like Tecno is finally embracing this and I am still not sure if the company will be doing away with the fingerprint sensor in favour of the facial scanner. I prefer a fingerprint scanner but let’s just wait and see how it works to decide if it is a viable alternative.

We do not know much about the rear facing camera at this point. From the leaked photos, it doesn’t look like we are getting a dual camera setup on the Camon X. Some rumours have suggested that we may have a super pixel zoom camera at the back but this is yet to be confirmed. Camon devices are camera-centric devices and I would not be surprised if we see a camera we have not seen from the company before.

Other Goodies

Besides the camera, the Camon X is rumoured to have an inbuilt cooling system of some sort. I still have don’t have all the information regarding this but I will update you on that if and when I get the information. Either way, this sounds interesting if it really works.

CAMON X

Powering the phone will be the latest Android Iteration, Android 8.0 Oreo. We have not see many devices launch in Kenya with Android Oreo so the Camon X will be among the first. The processor used here is still a mystery but we are expecting the RAM to be bigger than the one on the Camon CM and the Camon CX. My guess is that we will be seeing 6GB or even 8GB RAM on this. The storage space on this phone is also a mystery but sources inside the company say we should expect “a large internal storage space (probably, the largest ever seen on a smartphone).” This is a bold claim that we will revist next month when the phone is officially unveiled.

This new smartphone from Tecno will come in two variants, a standard model and a ´Plus´ model that should be much bigger than the standard model. Even before seeing either model, I will say that the Plus model is the one I will be interested in, big is always better.

Are you excited about the new Camon smartphone, I know I am. Keep it here to learn more about this phone as we get the information.
