Tecno’s latest flagship smartphone, the Phantom 8, has officially been launched in Kenya. The phone was launched earlier today and should be available in retail stores for Ksh 37,000. The phone was officially launched in Dubai towards the end of October and has been available in some retail stores even though Tecno had not officially confirmed its availability.
One of the big selling points of the Tecno Phantom 8 is in the camera department. The device comes two cameras at the back, one has a 12MP sensor while the other one is a 13MP one. The selfie camera is a 20MP one and has smart dual selfie flash to ensure the photos you take in the dark are good enough to be shared with your friends.
“The MEA region is very dynamic and one that appreciates intelligent innovation coupled with aesthetically pleasing design. The all-new Phantom 8 embraces the region’s requirements and is more powerful than ever in both speed and photo quality,” said Ray Hou, Marketing Manager TECNO Mobile Limited, Kenya.
“We are pleased to continue our successful journey in Kenya to bring about an enhanced mobile experience to those in the country and region as well,” he concluded.
Since its unofficial availability in the country until now, we are meant to understand that the company has sold 1,500 Phantom 8 units. This was revealed to me by a source in the company who is not authorised to share such information with the public. Either way, these are impressive numbers for a phone that has been around for less than a month and one that the company has not heavily marketed. They are better than expected if indeed true.
Below is a look at some of the Tecno Phantom 8 Specifications.

Tecno Sold Over 79 Million Smartphones Last Year
When unveiling the Phantom 8 in the country, Tecno also announced that it sold over 79 million smartphones in 2016. If true, this is quite good for the company that has focused its operations in Africa and is just now expanding to the Middle East. This definitely makes Tecno one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers out there and is even more impressive for a company that focuses on the lower market segment except for its Phantom series.
I will try to get my hands on the Phantom 8 and review it for you guys in the next couple of weeks.
