Samsung unveiled its latest device, the Galaxy Note 8, yesterday at an event in New York. The company decided to unveil this device at this event but also plans to showcase it next week at the IFA trade show in Berlin. Besides the Note 8, Samsung will also unveil its new Gear S smartwatch at the same event. This was revealed yesterday by Samsung’s head of mobile division, DJ Koh.
Over the years, Samsung has used the IFA trade show as a platform to launch its new Gear S devices and this year will not be any different. The new Gear S watch will succeed the Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier that the company unveiled last year.
Samsung did not give any details of this new smartwatch but DJ Koh said that the wearable market needs a bigger focus on health monitoring for it to really take off. This probably means that we should expect to see health focused features on the new Gear watch when it is unveiled. This doesn’t mean that we will see anything revolutionary, I do not expect that this early, this is probably something to expect from Gear smartwatches in the future.
He said, “If we can put in place properly a smartwatch that can monitor everything for your health and provide the information, then the market will grow. Today’s sensors do not look like enough.”
We will update you with more information as we get it.
